28 Fundamental Beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
The Holy Scriptures:
The Bible as the inspired Word of God.
The Trinity:
One God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—a unity of three co-eternal Persons.
The Father:
God the eternal Father is the Creator, Source, Sustainer, and Sovereign of all creation.
The Son:
God the eternal Son became incarnate in Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit:
God the eternal Spirit was active with the Father and the Son in Creation, incarnation, and redemption.
Creation:
God created the universe in six literal days and rested on the seventh day.
The Nature of Humanity:
Humans were made in God’s image but are now fallen and in need of salvation.
The Great Controversy:
All humanity is now involved in a great conflict between Christ and Satan.
The Life, Death, and Resurrection of Christ:
Through Christ’s life of perfect obedience and sacrifice, salvation is made possible.
The Experience of Salvation:
By faith through grace we are justified and regenerated.
Growing in Christ:
Daily surrender to Jesus results in victory over evil powers.
The Church:
The community of believers who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
The Remnant and Its Mission:
God’s end-time people who keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus.
Unity in the Body of Christ:
We are all equal in Christ, called to unity in diversity.
Baptism:
Public expression of faith through immersion in water.
The Lord’s Supper:
A memorial of Jesus’ death and a renewal of faith in Him.
Spiritual Gifts and Ministries:
The Holy Spirit bestows gifts for service within the church.
The Gift of Prophecy:
One of the gifts of the Spirit; manifested in the ministry of Ellen G. White.
The Law of God:
The Ten Commandments express God’s will and character.
The Sabbath:
The seventh day (Saturday) is the Sabbath, a day of rest and worship.
Stewardship:
Faithful use of time, body, talents, and material resources.
Christian Behavior:
Living in harmony with biblical principles in all areas of life.
Marriage and the Family:
A lifelong union between a man and a woman ordained by God.
Christ’s Ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary:
Jesus is our High Priest, ministering on our behalf.
The Second Coming of Christ:
Jesus’ visible return to earth to deliver His people.
Death and Resurrection:
Death is an unconscious state; believers await resurrection.
The Millennium and the End of Sin:
1,000-year reign with Christ and the final judgment.
The New Earth:
God will recreate the earth where righteousness dwells forever.
